Celebrate Maternal Mental Health Month!

Women's health is often ignored, but the month of May recognizes the struggles of Maternal Mental Health, so it became a holiday in 2014. To raise awareness of this common struggle, May 3 is World Maternal Mental Health Day.

According to WMMH Day,1 in 5 women experiences some type of perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMAD). PMADs include postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, postpartum obsessive compulsive disorder, postpartum bipolar, and postpartum psychosis. Symptoms can appear at any time during pregnancy and the first 12 months after childbirth. Women are often ashamed to experience these emotions and do not reach out for support, but there are many resources to help. Visit this website, if you are based in the US, for additional support: https://www.postpartum.net/, and do not be afraid to talk to a doctor or a mental health professional for help.
